A people is a majority of people considered all in all, just like the case with an ethnic gathering or country. All in all, for instance, the contemporary Frisians and Danes are two related Germanic people groups, while different Middle Eastern ethnic gatherings are regularly semantically ordered as Semitic people groups.

Both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire utilized the Latin expression Senatus Populusque Romanus, (the Senate and People of Rome).
